Our Mission
h² Empower is dedicated to empowering people through education and sustainable development. We believe that everyone has great potential and can achieve their goals. We work with those with the greatest need, linking people, projects and agencies.
Currently we are concentrating our efforts in one area--- a rural agricultural area of southern Ethiopia. Hossana is the capitol of the Hadiya Zone, in the southern region of Ethiopia. Hossana has 60,000 people (30,000 school age children) and double that size in the surrounding agricultural area. We know that sustainable development involves many aspects of daily life, including building infrastructure such as roads and wells, health and education, strengthening families, and supporting girls and women. We intend to channel our energies into one area, serving about 120,000 people with the goal of making an impact on many aspects of life for the people.
Our efforts include improving the education system through the following ways:- Training of teachers and increasing access to information while
promoting global minded education - Building and supplying libraries
- Creating wells for increased sanitation and health
- Organizing various workers into collectives to increase productivity and ultimately their standard of living
- Support an orphanage serving children who are victims of
the ravages of
HIV/AIDS
We know that there are many interrelated development needs. h² Empower is working to build sustainable systems so that the community will have increased income, improved heath and additional resources for today and tomorrow. Our model is to support one community on many levels and to develop sustainable structures rather than drop funds, build something and then move on. It takes time and the coordinated efforts of many people to make long-term lasting change. We intend to help empower the people of Ethiopia, building community efforts to improve their standard of living for themselves and their children’s future.
